BEADWORK
The Wixárika people have cultivated various art forms utilzing beads ranging from jewerly to intricately stitched bags and sculptures.

SACRED SYMBOLOGY
Wixárika beadwork is an intricate craft that involves threading tiny, vibrant beads onto wire or thread to form stunning patterns and designs with deep spiritual and cultural significance.
The beadwork often reflects elements of the Wixárika's worldview, including their connection to nature, animals, and their ancestors. Common symbols include the deer (Kauyumari), peyote cactus (Hikuri), god’s eye (Tsikuli), sun (Takuyasi), corn (Iku), and other revered animals like the snake (Kū) and eagle (Waríka).
The types of beadwork vary, including the creation of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and intricate pieces like animal figures. Each piece is meticulously crafted, often taking weeks or months to complete, and serves as a powerful expression of the community's beliefs, history, and identity. Wixárika beadwork has gained global recognition for its vivid colors, detailed craftsmanship, and the profound meaning embedded in each creation.
