Handmade indigenous artwork from the Wixárika (Huichol Tribe)
This one-of-a-kind yarn painting is crafted by the visionary Wixárika artist and mara-akame (shaman), Eligio Carrillo. Eligio’s yarn paintings hold profound spiritual significance, serving as Nierikas, or sacred doorways to the divine—each piece is a passage into the spiritual world as envisioned by the shaman.
Artist's Description: This is the magic mirror. When the colored corn is born, offerings such as candles and arrows are brought to the place of sowing. With prayers they are blessed, because the sun god (Takuyasi) requires it. Corn beer and chocolate are given at the four points. The shaman asks for it to rain and for there to be a good corn sowing, in the harvest ceremony at night the deer dance is performed. When the deer is hunted, chocolate is given to it and it is blessed with corn beer.
