Handmade indigenous artwork from the Wixárika (Huichol Tribe)
This one-of-a-kind yarn painting is crafted by the visionary Wixárika artist and mara-akame (shaman), Eligio Carrillo. Eligio’s yarn paintings hold profound spiritual significance, serving as Nierikas, or sacred doorways to the divine—each piece is a passage into the spiritual world as envisioned by the shaman.
Artist's Description: This is the doorway of the Eagle in which the people fly to the spirit realm in the sky. They leave offerings to honor creation and walk in the footsteps of the gods. The painting depicts the place where Tate Warika Umari (Grandmother Eagle Goddess) helped raise up the sun, with Kauyumari (The Magical Deer Sipirit) dancing to honor the light.
