Handmade indigenous artwork from the Wixárika (Huichol Tribe)
This one-of-a-kind yarn painting is crafted by the visionary Wixárika artist and mara-akame (shaman), Eligio Carrillo. Eligio’s yarn paintings hold profound spiritual significance, serving as Nierikas, or sacred doorways to the divine—each piece is a passage into the spiritual world as envisioned by the shaman.
Artist's Description: Each year children take part in the Drum and Harvest Ceremony, during which the shamans help their spirits travel to distant places in order to receive power. The children also receive the blessings from the shamans of the past, through the crystals kept in the temple, which carry part of the spirit of those who have passed. After reaching a certain age (5 or 6 years of age), the children hopefully have the life force to live a long and healthy life.
